Saudi International Medical Education Conference (SIMEC 2022) held under the auspices of the Saudi Society for Medical Education (SSME) and King Khalid University, on the 15th and 16th of February 2022, at Abha Palace Hotel, in Abha city, Saudi Arabia. Recommendations and Call for Action:
1. Establish a certification program in medical and health professions education focused on the development of basic teaching-learning and assessment competency amongst the faculty members. Undertake measures to make this certification compulsory for all faculty members and instructors.
2. Promote the development of learning resources locally, which is customised to the learning needs of the students.
3. Promote leadership and communication skills amongst the faculty members to ensure a bottom-up approach to change, which is in-sync with our requirements.
4. Ensure adoption of newer methods of assessment especially in post graduate clinical education through capacity building and leadership development.
5. Ensure greater emphasis on professionalism and clinical communication skills development amongst the students through faculty capacity building and by ensuring due emphasis in the curriculum and assessment.
6. Provide greater opportunities for networking and collaboration amongst health professions educators by managing expert groups which can work through the virtual platform.
7. Undertake initiatives for publication of expert documents on issues of concern in medical education and health professions education from time to time.
8. Ensure greater adoption of digital tools to aid learning efficiency as well as increase interactivity in the teaching-learning process through capacity building and leadership development.
9. Ensure greater recognition of social accountability amongst faculty and pass outs through sensitization and community engagement.
10. Promote excellence in teaching and mentoring through capacity and leadership development and recognition of excellence in these aspects.
